Nestle Purina Petcare, strengthen cat food category Renews "Purina One" and adds new items to "MonPetit" and "Friskies" (page 41)
Nestle Purina Petcare (president Craig Fuller, Kobe-shi Hyogo) launched an autumn new products. Centered on the cat brand, renewal and addition of items have made.
"Purina One", expanding as dogs and cats' super premium dry food, changed "Indoor cat" in its main material and ingredient. "Indoor cat" is developed for cat staying in house. To enhance care element, choose salmon that containing a plenty of EPA and DHA for main material, and glucosamine is compounded to prevent arthristis. "MonPetit" and "Friskies" expanded their items and met cat's taste. One of the main items, "MonPetit dry series", that is MonPetit dry, MonPetit petit box" and "MonPetit petit bag", are reformed completely to white package pursuing for high-grade image.
As to dog food category, though there were no changes, added a cheese taste to dog's treats "Bones" launched this march. The company directed its attention to growth of dog treats market. As innovative product, "Bones", which has sales performance in US, was promoted.

Unicharm PetCare, listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange (page 37)
Unicharm PetCare (president Gunpei Futagami, Shinagawa-ku Tokyo) approved by Tokyo Stock Exchange on August 19 and was listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange as of September 1. It has been only about a year since the company was listed on the second section in October last year.
Unicharm PetCare announced "In order to meet customer's expectations, we will make an effort to extend the achievements and to improve the company's worth." Taking advantage of this opportunity, the company will tackle realizing the company's philosophy "Let's make pet's life comfortable with good health and cleanliness."

Japan Aquarium Fish Association (chairman Nobuyuki Yoshida, Edogawa-ku Tokyo) will hold "2005 Aquarium Fair" on September 17-19. Sites are Roppongi Hills Arena, tv asahi atrium and Event space UMU. It opens from 10:00 to 19:00. For a talk show, Chris Peppler, who is known for radio program of J-WAVE, is selected. In addition, direct a fashionable aquarium life by opening a lounge bar.

Besides the living body of "Discus", "Betta" and "Guppy" contest will be carried out, the aquarium layout contest will be taken place. For the living body contest, examined by professional, but as for the layout contest, a ranking is decided by visitor's vote. Last year's valid votes were more than 8,000 because a voter could take part in the lottery.
The display water tank will be sold to visitor as "Display water tank fair". More than one water tank was sold last year. Some of them were sold by several hundred thousand yen.
As the other attraction, scooping goldfish "Finding KINGYO" is planed. Release a special kind of gold fish in a water tank where a lot of gold fish are swimming and participant who scoops the special kind of gold fish can get a present.

Echo Trading will hold "Pet Kingdom 2005 in Pacifico Yokohama" in November (page 40)
Echo Trading (president Kazuhiko Takahashi, Nishinomiya-shi Hyogo) will hold "Pet Kingdom 2005 in Pacifico Yokohama" on November 26, 27. Toei is collaborative sponsor. They are now looking for exhibitors and the deadline is September 30. But they close applications as soon as it reaches an estimated number. A briefing session will be held in the middle of October. An exhibition fee is 210 thousand yen (tax is not included) per space (W2,970mm x 2,970mm x 2,700mm).
The case of "Pet Kingdom in Osaka" held on golden week (a succession of holidays from April 29th to May 5th), 63,976 people came to the site, 78% of whom were women and 27% attendances accompanied their pet. They set a goal 70,000 people this time.
As events, at the living body display place, there are "Forest world ", "water world" and "ice world", contact with cats and dogs, small animals and penguins and on the stage, shows like "Wan-chan theater", "trimming show", "parrot circus" and " fashion show" are planned. A living body will be sold there too.

Echo Trading held a briefing session of the company for individual investor (page 40)
Echo Trading (president Kazuhiko Takahashi, Nishinomiya-shi Hyogo) held a briefing session of the company for individual investor at Tokyo International Forum on July 30 sponsored by Ichiyoshi Research Institute Inc. Both F.D.C.Products which expands its jewelry brand "4C" and Arte which manages beauty salon "ash" had a explanation on that day, too. All 100 seats were occupied.
As to take part in the briefing session for individual investor, the president Mr. Takahashi said "We would like to expand the range of shareholders". It seems by increasing shareholders, he tries to stabilize the share prices.
Besides presentations of each company's representative, conversation with analysts of each industry at the Ichiyoshi Research Institute and question time from the individual investors were prepared.

Master Foods announced to launch "a food suit for every life habit" (page 36)
Master Foods Ltd. (president David Teasdale, Meguro-ku Tokyo) launched autumn new pet foods 2005 on August 22 (some of them will be on September 12).
Responded to pet owner's concerns about life habit and eating habit of their dogs, the company launched pedigree "for the dogs lacking of exercise", "for the dogs eating too much" and "for the dogs eating very little", so that owner can choose dog food fitting his (her) dog's life habit. Master Foods developed "a food suit for every life habit" using natural food material for the first time.
As for wet type dog food, pedigree cham "diet support from 7 age", "immunity support form 7 age" and "digestion and absorption support from 7 age" will be developed for a owner of senior dog.
Master Foods will create a new category paying attention to diverse health needs and expand a dog food market.
"Dog owner's needs become delicate. We produced a food that we could deal with from dog research result of our company." explained Mr. Naoki Saito, the head of PR office.
As for cats, strengthen single can category On the other hand, for cat food brand, Master Foods launched new 2 cat wet type foods in the single can category which occupied more than 70% share.
Responded to cat owner's needs, they developed a single can "stick to performance (Kodawari-shitate)" series which sticks to the way of cook and brings out the taste in materials as "Kalkan Wiskas" brand. As for "Sheba" brand, the wet type cat food will be renewed and propose upgrade menu.

"Herb seminar for pets" will be held in October Medical herb master, Mr. G. Tilford gives a lecture for the first time. (page 41)
Mr. Gregory L. Tilford will give a lecture about "Herb seminar for pets" on October 28, 29 for the first time in Japan. He is one of the authors of the holistic care guide book, "Herbs for Pets" which is sold 300 thousands in US and become the talk in Japan translated in Japanese. The seminar is sponsored by Nana- Corporate- Communication, Nora Corporation and supported by Japan Holistic Veterinary Association (JHVA) and Green dog.
The place of seminar is Sumitomo- Fudosan Nishi-shinjuku Hall and a fixed number is 200 each day (both 28 and 29 are same program). The closing date for applications is October 17. A tuition fee is 13,000 yen (include tax). This seminar is held for pet industry's specialist (specialty shop, trimmer and products developer etc.), veterinary, herb specialist and holistic animal care specialist. Tamagawa Takashimaya held Insect exhibition (page 41)
"Surprise ! Global great insect exhibition "was held in Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C Arena Hall from July 27 to August 16. Because of summer vacation, more than 76,200 people visited the exhibition. It was sponsored by Tamagawa Takashimaya S.C, planed by Agua Amazon Club and supported by Gakken.
The exhibits were "Fireflies in darkroom", "Dragonflies and butterflies", "Ants' nest, wasps' nest and spider's web", "Mimic insects" and "Aquatic insects". Also unique insects were displayed like "Cockroaches around the world" and "Tarantulas and scorpions" "It will be the cultivation of aesthetic sensitivity to observe the habits of insects.", explained the PR department of Takashimaya.

Heart Land Fukuoka started virtual pet cemetery service "Net de Omairi" (page 43)
Pet cemetery, Heart Land Fukuoka (president Kazutoshi Ishii, Minami-ku Fukuoka-city) started a service "Net de Omairi", which is pet's grave on the HP, on August 5. It is free. The company plans to distribute mail magazine and provide various information to a registrant. "We would like to heal pet owners sorrow who lost their pet and spread the service widely. ", said the manager of Heart Land Fukuoka, Mr. Koji Yamazaki. This service was dealt with in a news paper, the number of registrant is increasing.
