Supplement for pet's smell, "Wanbrio Champignon" (page 44) GB Corporation (president Takeshi Iwao, Chuo-ku Tokyo), which is pet's supplement maker, started to sell "Wanbrio Champignon" from December 23. This product is the supplement compounded of champignon extract that is paid attention because of its natural deodorant effect, green tea extract, oligosaccharide and water-soluble dietary fiber and as it is granule in shape, it is easy to give by put it in every day's food or water. This product is good for an owner who has trouble with pet's bad breath, body smell and feces and urine smell. One of the reasons for bad breath, body smell and feces smell is rotten material created in the stomach. Champignon extract works on rotten material in the intestines directly, makes environment in intestines in good condition and control the bad smell in the stomach. Catechin in green tea extract makes us more resistant to viruses and bacteria by sterilizing action. Eco-products 2005 is held at Tokyo Big Sight (page 50) Eco-products 2005 was held at Tokyo Big Sight from December 15 to 17. This fair is for people of company, organization, NGO, NPO, administration, autonomy, University, institute and ordinary to think realization of eco-life by touching eco-products or environment problems. This fair is the biggest environmental general exhibition in Japan and it has taken place since 1999. 502 companies and organizations (970 booths) took part in this fair and environment-friendly products, service and concept were introduced. The number of exhibitor was increase 10% compared with last year and became the largest scale. This showed the high concerns for eco-products in each industry. Instead of that, only one company participated in the fair from the pet industry, which is Island Trade & Industries (representative Hiroshi Watabe, Kawasaki-shi Kanagawa) dealing with import products such as litter for small animal, material putting on floor and cat sand. Wooden pellet is said that emits only as much as CO2 absorbed tree's growth period, so it is expected to spread as a litter and a material putting on floor to contribute to prevent global warming.
"Pet Industry and Marketing" seminar is held at Chiyoda-ku (page 47) "Pet Industry and Marketing" seminar was held at Chiyoda-ku by The Research Institute of Marketing (Chiyoda-ku Tokyo) on last December 29. The seminar was for companies that think of newly entering into pet business or worry about introducing pet goods into market and sales promotion. The lecturer was Mr. Norio Taguchi, representative of T.N.C.(Minato-ku Tokyo), who conducts marketing research in the pet industry and sells pet products. The content is about market analysis of pet food, product and service. The lecture was put on a wide range of subject from product planning to marketing research. A unique point was the way of marketing research. Main marketing research would made by observation of the other company's booth or research of visitor at pet related event, but Mr.Taguchi's theory is "As we don't have research specialist in pet industry, we have little information, so information is obtained by pet owner's word of mouth." Based on actual episode about marketing, he explained it is the best way to go to park on Sunday and listen to the candid opinions of pet owners. Mr. Taguchi himself takes this way and gets information about food, shampoo, veterinary of good reputation and trimming salon and makes use of these information.

HEISEIPET is known as the general pet shop that manages to sell living body of dog and cat, beautician training school, ceremonial occasion of pet, clinic, and wholesale. Especially, beautician training school has more than 20 years history and has produced more than 100 graduates. It was established in 1973 and moved to present address in 1991. Building is made of reinforced concrete and has 120 tsubo of floor space (site has 300 tsubo). Until now, the beautician training school was set on the second floor (about 60 tsubo), but during construction, they are going to use it as a temporary shop. The theme is "to live safely with pet. − common infectious disease between human and animal." Start from Chiba on January 28, it will be held at 8 cities. "1st Japan K9 game" is held at Differ Ariake (page 48) Pet Dog Training Secretariat (Kobe-shi Chuo-ku Hyogo) held "1st Japan K9 Game" at Differ Ariake (Tokyo) on November 26, 27. K9 Game is the 9 kinds of competition makeing dog training into game form devised by Dr. Ian Dunber. This game was held in US and Canada, but it was the first time to have the game in Japan. As it was the first time, preparation was made carefully. Mr. Hiroshi Maeda of secretariat said, "We chose participants mainly who have record in their way, this time. I wanted this game to be an impetus." So, about 40% of participants had a workshop experience. But it is different from obedience, naturally the purpose of this sport is to train family dog."The most important thing is whether everyone enjoy or not. As a host, I always care about this part.", as Dr. Dunber said, ceaseless smile and sound of laughter remained in the site. Both professional and amateur participants enjoyed the game.
Japan Association of Pet Dog Trainers is established this spring (page 48) "Japan Association of Pet Dog Trainers (JAPDT)" is established under cooperation of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) in US. Prof. Mitsuaki Ota (professor of school of veterinary medicine, Azabu University) assumes chairman. The association is now on preparation and the activity will be started this spring. APDT is an educational organization that Dr. Dunber established in US for family dog trainers in 1993. The number of member is about 5000, and they have held a conference at the main city every autumn. Also JAPDT is established as educational organization for Japan's family dog trainers. The purpose of this organization is to offer an educational opportunity to dog trainers, dog specialists and general public, and to learn training way that is scientific and considering dog's situation. They hold "1st JAPDT Conference" from on December 4 to 7 in 2006. The site is International Congress Center Tsukuba and lecturers are Prof. Yuji Mori (professor of veterinary behavioral science, Tokyo University), Dr. Ian Dunber and Mr. Jean Donaldson. Target participants are the all the people who engage in family dog.
"Goldfish Exhibition" was held in EXPO 2005 AICHI (page 66) "Goldfish Exhibition" was held at Aichi Pavilion Nagakute in EXPO 2005 AICHI Japan from September 9 to 11. Variety of plans like "The world biggest scooping space goldfish", exhibition of ornamental fish breeding goods and food and exhibition of Japan's famous goldfish (70 aquariums) were carried out. The number of visitors was 196,299 on September 9, 250,694 on 10 and 219,292 on 11 (by Japan Association for the 2005 World Exhibition), so average is more than 220,000 a day. Because of this, lots of people visited Aichi Festival Plaza which became the site. An eye-catcher of this event was "The world biggest scooping space goldfish". Total length of scoop pools made of wood (3 meters each) was more than 120 meters. So, over 200 people can scoop goldfish at the same time. At the site, asking for visitors, "let's try the Guinness book of records", and people gathered from not only various parts of Japan but also all over the world joined the scooping goldfish.
No.1 gold fish is Shin-Wakin (page 67) "12th No.1 Goldfish in Japan" was held at Kainan-Kodomo-no-kuni in Aichi on October 23. Though it was very cold and blowing strong wind that day, more goldfish (559) were exhibited than we expected (500) from 17 administrative divisions. The No.1 in Japan Prize / The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan Prize was Mr. Mamoru Chiba's Shin-Wakin and the Director General of Fisheries Agency Prize was Mr. Yoshio Kamata's Rancho. The union president of Miwa reflected on the competition and said "As a trend of exhibited goldfish, the number of eccentric goldfish is increased besides 25 kinds of goldfish sold in Japan. I feel that fancier is looking for new living body."
Japan Wayne holds the first business negotiation at exhibition in Tokyo (page 50) Japan Wayne (president Yasushi Maeda, Settsu-shi Osaka) decided detail of the first business negotiation at exhibition in Tokyo. The period is March 1- 2 in 2006, the place is Tokyo Metropolitan Sangyo-Boeki-Kaikan (Minato-ku Tokyo). New products for spring are exhibited by dog and cat food and goods related makers. Japan Wayne made head office (Settsu-shi Osaka) and Yokohama sales office (Kanagawa-ku Kanagawa) foothold and expanded business at Kanto area and Kinki area. The exhibitions held in Osaka have gathered 1,500 business persons per one time up to now. The reasons to have business negotiation in Tokyo are (1) the policy of expanding sales in Kanto area, (2) business negotiations at exhibition in Tokyo are decreasing. Adapting the exhibition, Tokyo branch will be open in Setagaya-ku in April. By this, they will expand actively in Kanto area with existing sales office.
